With less than only 18 hours for the start of much awaited Cricket World Cup group A match between Sri Lanka and Australia, torrential rainfalls recorded from Colombo and suburb areas where the match is scheduled to be played.
The match is already sold out and Sri Lanka Cricket expects, around 80,0000 crowd at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on 5th March. How ever, the rain has created some doubts in the minds of cricket fans.
Later last year, Sri Lanka Cricket decided to abandon a five match ODI series against West Indies due to the torrential rainfall happening in the island. Later in January when West Indies returned for a 3 match ODI series, the first match was again interrupted by rain. Weather experts say there is some series climate change taking place in the region. Normally in February and March, most parts of Sri Lanka experience a heavy drought. However this time around, the climate is much colder and rain has continued time to time throughout February.
At the point of writing this, rain has gone away, but still no signs of clear night skies. This is about 5 Kilometers away from the stadium.
Cricket fans around Sri Lanka are eagerly awaiting the match and everyone is hoping for a bright and sunny day tomorrow in Colombo.
I will keep updating this post about the weather situation in Colombo, throughout Saturday morning until the match begins at 2.30pm local time.
