Sri Lanka Cricket announced a 15 player squad for the upcoming cricket world cup, ahead of ICC’s deadline for naming the 15 member squad for the world cup. Despite speculations of Sanath Jayasuriya getting a chance to play in his sixth cricket world cup, the Sri Lankan selectors axed Jayasuriya from the 15 member squad for world cup. Along with Jayasuriy, the champion fast bowler Chaminda Vass too was kept out from the Sri Lankan selection.
Most Sri Lankan fans welcomed the decision to keep Sanath Jayasuriya out from the world cup squad, given his poor form in international cricket recently and his age factor. Jayasuriya, who is 42 years of age has played 444 One Day International cricket matches. Sri Lankan cricket fans generally view this as a positive decision by the selectors, as a way of giving more chances to in form batsmen.
Contrary to the public opinion regarding Sanath Jayasuriya; some cricket fans from Sri Lanka still believes Chaminda Vass should have been included in the final squad for Cricket World Cup. Chaminda Vass who lost his position in the team about a year back due to bad form, came into rhythm in recently concluded domestic season England and in Sri Lanka. Many cricket fans believe, Chaminda Vass is a better option for slow cricket pitches in the sub-continent and he should have been given a chance at the expense of Dilhara Fernando, who is seen as a specialist fast bowler on fast tracks in England and West Indies.
Most of the other participating nations are yet to announce their 15 member squads for Cricket World Cup 2011. We will update on this site, as soon the other countries start announcing their 15 player squads.
